Hytte på Åkerøya
2002
The island site offered two clear challenges: the open sea to the south, and the rich farmed landscape behind. The house meets this situation by opening the entire southern façade towards the ocean with large sliding glass doors, and isolating the two small annex rooms with small windows framing the details of the surrounding vegetation.
The floor is designed to work as one continuous surface, only differentiated by the level changes dictated by the natural topography. The interplay of the rooms can be tuned by the use of sliding doors, two fire places the only fixed elements. Exterior and interior cladding is untreated aspen panelling. The tiled roof gives a connection to the surrounding houses.
